WHEN: Monday, June 8: gather starting at 5pm, kneeling in silence from 5:15pm-5:24pm. WHAT: Kneel in silence in solidarity with our Black students, families, colleagues and community to honor the life of George Floyd.

WHO: All staff, students, families and friends of Rocketship Media are asked to keep a respectful distance so as not to interfere with the event. We will have markers on the ground outside to identify where to kneel around the Rocketship Transformation Prep school building. Across schools, we are increasing time for social emotional learning each day in order to give our students space to process these horrific events.ĭue to the Covid-19 pandemic, it is essential that everyone wears a mask and stays at least six feet apart. In the days since George Floyd’s death, our teachers have called all of their Black students individually and checked in with them and their families. Black women from the community make up 50% of school leaders and 67% of teachers at Rocketship Transformation Prep. Transformation Prep runs a boys mentoring group led by Black male teachers to offer additional support to our Black students. This is one small way that we can come together and actively acknowledge the imperative work we must do to dismantle institutional structures that permit and perpetuate racial violence and inequity.Ĩ8% of the students at Rocketship Transformation Prep on the northside are Black. We also want to recognize the suffering of so many Black people at the hands of police, including brutality and loss of life. Rocketship Milwaukee Public Schools will kneel for nine minutes on Monday, June 8th in solidarity with our Black students, families, colleagues and community to honor the life of George Floyd.
